Lata Mangeshkar
Lata Mangeshkar was an Indian playback singer and occasional music composer. She is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential singers of the Indian subcontinent. Her voice was one of the unifying elements of the people of South Asia across borders. Her contribution to the Indian music industry in a career spanning eight decades gained her honorific titles such as the "Queen of Melody", "Nightingale of India", and "Voice of the Millennium".
Mangeshkar was born on September 28, 1929, in Indore, India. She began her singing career at a young age, and her first song was released in 1942. She went on to sing for over 1,000 films in Hindi and other Indian languages.
Mangeshkar's songs have been featured in some of the most popular Indian films of all time, including Mughal-E-Azam (1960), Guide (1965), and Sholay (1975). She has also sung for several independent albums and released her own single, "Aye Mere Vatan Ke Logon", in 1963.
Mangeshkar was a recipient of numerous awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award. She was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Vibhushan, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Mangeshkar died on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92. She was mourned by millions of people around the world. Her legacy will continue to live on through her music.
